How to Make Rock Cakes

For my second video in the Invade London special going on on YouTube I had my 2 yr old help me make some yummy traditional British snacks called rock cakes.  They are called rock cakes because they kinda look like .... well,  rocks.

My recipe varies a bit from traditional recipes but they are still just as yummy! It all comes together in one bowl and there is no fancy way to scoop them out. I just use a spoon and drop globs of it on my baking sheet. It's a great way to get kids involved in the kitchen.

I'm posting this video recipe on my cooking blog- Crafty Cocina.  So you can click HERE to view the video and text directions.

Have a great weekend!

Olympic Gold Medal Craft Project

For the London 2012 Summer Olympics creators from all over the world are taking over YouTube with the most awesome Olympics videos ever. So for the next six weeks I'll be posting one Olympics or British related video tutorial each week. The team I'm on is called- Team Let's Hang Out Sometime and we are all making some really fun and cool videos as part of this program.

I was feeling brave this week and headed out to my studio to film the tutorial with both kids in tow... and by myself! I included my almost three year old son in the video on how to make an Olympic gold medal that's great fun for kids to play with.  He was my little on-camera helper! Surprisingly, it went very smoothly and he loves to help me make new crafts so this was right up his alley. Watch the video to see him action.

To learn how to make this easy craft project for your kids watch my video tutorial HERE or you can watch it below if you are reading this on my website.

Don't forget to pin this tutorial. I love pins!

Check out the rest of my teammates channels for some more fun Olympic & London related videos.

Making a Tank Top Pattern from a Onesie

Kicking off a new series called Clothes from Clothes.  I'll be teaching you how to take articles of clothing you already have and create a pattern from them so you can make more clothes that look and fit nicely.  I'm starting off simple with baby's clothes.  In this tutorial we will trace around a baby onesie and use it to create a tank top or tank dress pattern that can be made over and over again.  So easy, too.

In this video I'll show you the two rulers I love to use when I'm creating my own patterns- a straight quilting ruler and Curvey.

A local sewing/quilting friend of mine is the creator of Curvey and her husband makes each one right here in Florida. They have been so generous to offer one Curvey ruler up for a giveaway.  To enter for your chance to win this very handy ruler watch the video tutorial for all entry details.

Hurry and enter because the giveaway ends tomorrow, Friday the 13th at 11:59pm.

Sewing with Knits- Part 2

A few weeks ago you may recall I posted the first part in my new series on sewing with stretch knit fabrics.  You can read that post and watch that video here. This week I'm back with Part 2

If you are still deathly afraid of trying to sew with knits I think this video will help you go for it!  I show you a few different stitches and how they end up looking on the fabric.... what works and what doesn't... how frustrating it can be to sew with stretchy fabric if you DON'T have the right tools and how easy breezy it is when you have your stuff together!

In this video I cover important information you should know before getting started with stretch knit fabrics including what type of needle and size to use, what presser foot helps sew nice flat and straight seams, stitch selection options (straight, zig zag, stretch), and information on how to pin your fabric.

The key tools I ALWAYS use when sewing with stretch knits are these and this.

Hope you will give it a try and get yourself ready for new tutorials using stretch knits!  The fabric is so forgiving on any body that you just gotta try it! It's really not that hard.

You can watch the video below or click HERE to access it.
